Selfish

by Steve Layman

1.
Acceptance 01:13
I don't think you should like me; It's not safe to place faith in what effort could exhume. I don't think you should trust me; I'm a skeptic at my best & obtuse when I grab the abyss. I don't think you could love me; My heart is the wet floor to your flat soled shoes. I don't think you could know me; My world is at arm's length, I won't react to your embrace.

Confess 02:01
I don't know what I'm doing, but I know it's my time to be. If I must be, may I be free? I don't know what I'm saying, but I know it's my turn to speak. If I must speak, may I do so honestly? Simply put, the modern age has shaken my faith. This body is bad technology too defective to remade. No subset of society keeps my focus in it's frames. I'm not your punk, I'm not the radical, I still don't feel sober, I'm not much of an artist, I'm not the joke. I'm not the name or the number Or the waste of space or days. I'm just a simple human being, Searching for joy through entropy. To feel the faintest light, I might name it truth... If there is truth to be believed.

about

If a global quarantine isn't the time I ought to use to actualize an album that's been seven years in the making, the time may never come again. Everything you're hearing was written, performed and recorded by me alone, using the application Spire on a cell-phone. Minimal post production efforts take place beyond the tracking process.

Maybe one day I'll revisit these songs in a proper studio and give them more tender love & care; but for now this is what I have the capacity to do. I wanted to make these songs a little bigger than they could be when I play them all alone. I hope you enjoy it.

Until I finish the entire record, nothing will be available for download. I won't say no to your money but given that my position will pay me throughout civilization's shutdown, I strongly encourage you to spend your money on the music & merch of artists whose livelihood is directly tied to their creative output. Thank you for your patience.
